Housing Initiatives
Developing compassionate and practical housing solutions that restore dignity, stability, and hope to individuals and families facing homelessness and housing insecurity.
Our Mission
Our mission is to restore dignity, stability, and hope by helping develop innovative housing solutions that make permanent homes more attainable for individuals and families facing homelessness and housing insecurity.
Why We Believe Housing Matters
At Provident Hearts Foundation, we believe that in this time of incredible technological advancement and abundance, no one should have to sleep on the streets.
Homelessness is no longer limited to individuals struggling with severe addiction or mental illness. Many people experience housing insecurity because of circumstances such as illness, job loss, divorce, rising housing costs, transportation problems, lack of support systems, or other unexpected life events that can quickly destabilize a household.
Homelessness should not be viewed simply as a permanent condition, but as a problem compassionate communities can work together to solve.
The Importance of Sheltering
Emergency sheltering, food assistance, and crisis outreach are essential services that preserve life and provide immediate relief during times of hardship. Countless organizations and volunteers faithfully meet these urgent needs, and their work is invaluable.
At the same time, we believe temporary assistance alone cannot fully address the long-term instability that keeps many individuals and families trapped in cycles of homelessness.
Sheltering preserves life. A home gives people a place to begin living again.
The Barriers Created by Homelessness
Without stable housing, many everyday tasks become significantly more difficult. Individuals experiencing homelessness often face barriers that directly affect their ability to regain stability and independence.
A permanent home immediately helps address challenges such as:
- Lack of privacy and personal security
- Anxiety about protecting personal belongings
- Difficulty safely storing important documents and necessities
- Inconsistent communication with employers, social workers, and support services
- Difficulty applying for employment without a permanent address
- Challenges maintaining consistent schedules and routines
- Increased emotional stress caused by constant uncertainty
A home does far more than provide shelter. It restores privacy, stability, dignity, and hope while creating the foundation from which individuals and families can begin rebuilding their lives.
Our Approach
Provident Hearts Foundation believes lasting progress begins with stability.
We support housing-focused approaches that prioritize placing individuals and families into permanent housing while also surrounding them with the resources, encouragement, and accountability needed to build greater independence over time.
Housing alone does not solve every challenge. However, we believe a safe and stable home creates the environment where meaningful progress becomes possible.
When people have a place to sleep safely, store their belongings, receive mail, meet with support workers, and build consistent routines, they are far better positioned to pursue employment, education, healthcare, financial stability, and other long-term goals.
Our Long-Term Housing Model
Provident Hearts Foundation envisions developing housing that remains owned and managed by the foundation while providing affordable homes for individuals and families working toward greater independence.
Residents would contribute toward housing based upon their ability to pay, with the goal of keeping housing affordable while encouraging personal responsibility and long-term stability. At the same time, occupants would be connected with the support services appropriate to their individual circumstances, including employment assistance, education, healthcare, financial counseling, documentation services, disability resources, or other community programs that help remove barriers to self-sufficiency.
As residents become more financially independent, rental income would help maintain existing properties while supporting the development of additional housing opportunities for others.
One of the driving goals of Provident Hearts Foundation is exploring innovative ways to reduce the cost of building quality housing.
We believe there is tremendous opportunity to rethink how affordable housing is designed and constructed. By encouraging innovation, we hope to help create quality homes that are significantly more affordable without sacrificing safety or quality.
Future innovations may include:
- 3D-printed homes
- Rehabilitation of blighted properties
- Repurposed or upcycled building materials
- Modular and compact housing concepts
- Other innovative construction methods and technologies
Reducing the cost of quality housing has the potential to remove one of the greatest barriers preventing many individuals and families from obtaining a permanent home.
Restoring Properties and Strengthening Communities
Provident Hearts Foundation is also interested in opportunities to restore blighted and abandoned properties throughout our community.
Revitalizing existing homes and multi-family properties has the potential to provide stable housing for multiple individuals or families while simultaneously improving neighborhoods, increasing safety, beautifying communities, and creating sustainable opportunities for future outreach.
A Call for Innovation and Partnership
Solving homelessness will require more than good intentions.
It will require innovation, collaboration, and people willing to challenge traditional approaches.
We welcome conversations with builders, contractors, architects, engineers, designers, innovators, churches, businesses, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and government partners who share a desire to create practical, affordable, and sustainable housing solutions.
If you have ideas that can reduce housing costs, improve construction methods, revitalize neighborhoods, or strengthen communities, we would love to hear from you.
Looking Toward the Future
Housing Initiatives is one of Provident Hearts Foundation's long-term commitments.
As the foundation grows, we hope to expand partnerships, secure funding, develop innovative housing solutions, restore properties, and create sustainable housing opportunities that restore dignity, stability, and hope for generations to come.
